Good post Chris.. as more and more work work is done in hetergeneous groups (whether cross functional teams, communities of practice, intra-organizational groups) due to the increasing complexity of our world, I totally agree that it is imperative that everyone involved explicitly state their role or objective, or even perspective, through which they're engaging with the group and the problem/issue the group is approaching. Tabling of all relevant information so groups, and the individuals within can make free and informed choices is critical, and that includes where the individual members are 'coming from.' But, as humans are all political to some degree or other, transparency and explicitness are good in theory, but often difficult in practice.

Dear Prof Irwin,

This Sunday’s lecture had so many Aha moments. I was intrigued. This was above my expectation and I am sure the rest lectures will be equally enjoyable. Understanding theory becomes easy when it is related to a real life example. I experienced it for my-self during role playing exercises. Apollo 13 clip was very captivating. (You may like “12 Angry Men” too.) Over all, the course has been very satisfactory so far. I am a financial risk manager employed with a federal financial regulator. I believe this course will help me in improving my relationships with my other team members and senior management of the regulated banks.

I surfed around microob.com, I have put its link on my favourites and will visit it often. I found very useful, thought provoking articles written by you. I wish you all the very best.

Regards,
Sanjiv

Hello,

I found this blog while researching the Starbucks "Passion Panel" you mentioned. I was recently asked to join and declined after reading the non-disclosure agreement (as part of the registration you confirm that you have read it and agree to the conditions). Although I'm not in the coffee espionage business the language was enough to scare me off. Please check it out for yourself if you haven't already:

Leadership Seminars...

One of my favorite Leadership quotes is by Vince Lombardi... it reflects my feelings: Leaders aren\'t born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that\'s the price we\'ll have to pay to achieve that goal,...
